Sweet Georgia Brown

Last Thursday we travelled down to Cadillac to watch the Harlem Globetrotters for the first time since 2009. This was probably the first time I've been in my old high school in close to fifteen years, if not longer. We had a great time as usual, and this would be Brian's first time seeing them. He's been watching the Globetrotters meet Scooby-Doo movies, gearing up for this event. They put on a great show as usual, and we weren't left disappointed. Trevor was picked to do a dance-off with Globie, but they scrapped it because they were running late. It seemed that they didn't do as much with kids on the court that they did when we saw them in Canada. Papa and cousin Shelby joined us this time, too, to make the event extra special. If they come our way on next year's tour, we'll definitely see them again. The Globetrotters pulled out a 105-101 victory, too, to win the World Championship!!!!!!!!!!

Camp Torenta Reunion

This past weekend was our Camp Torenta reunion, a children's camp in Cadillac that I worked at for three summers. The feelings that I had during the weekend are almost indescribable, but I'll do my best. I've never had a supernatural experience, but I expect it would be like this. Walking through an empty camp, I could literally feel/see/hear all of the children running around playing and laughing. Memories came flooding back to me at every turn. Even my name is still inscribed in the cabin we stayed in from back in 1989. Walking into the camps lodge, I nearly lost my breath as I remembered all of the dances and activities taken place there. The lodge was always where the staff would meet after hours, too, to hang out and spend time together. The people I worked with there became a second family to me. To see and talk to everyone again was a great experience for me and my kids. Lily and Trevor had a great time at camp and I think I'll try to send them there in the next few years. It was great watching them participate in the activities I used to teach while working there. I think they may have another reunion in a couple of years, and I definitely will be going back. This is just one of those sacred places that will always represent some of the greatest moments of my life.

Wet and Wild Weekend

Here we go with another 'the last weekend of the summer before school lets out' type weekend. We headed down to Cadillac to visit Nana and Papa because I, luckily, had the weekend off.

Friday we finished up some school shopping and went to Adventure Island on the west side. This year the kids went of the go-carts and the water slide. I had to drive both Lily and Trevor, and Brian stayed with Papa. Brian liked to watch the go-carts zip around the track, though. He also got to play on the playground there while Lily and Trevor were at the water slide. They had a good time and want to do that again next year. It's part of their birthday present, too, as Trevor turned 7 on the 30th, and Lily turns 8 on the 8th.
