Youth Soccer Banquet

Earlier this month the Sault Youth Soccer Association held it's annual banquet to honor the players for the 2011 season. Of course, Trevor was one of the few who didn't wear their jersey because our wonderful coach never bothered to call or even let us know he was supposed to. At least we got some free ice cream out of the deal, so Brian and Kassidy (welcome to the Blog, Kassidy!) were happy with that. Lily was at a friends house, so she missed out, but Trevor had a good time, and hopefully this season won't sour him on soccer totally. There's always next year.

Sault Soccer Season Ends

Ok, I've been so busy, and I usually try to have an entry for every game, but this season it just didn't happen. Trevor's team had a rough year, finishing last, but he still had a good time playing. He missed the last two games, one because his leg hurt, and the second because we didn't receive the e-mail about it until it was too late. I've stated how disappointed I am in how this league is run, and I think the kids were feeling it this season also. We had pretty high hopes at the beginning, since Trevor was on the same team as his best friend Alec, but with only a few practices, it was hard to compete in game. I'm not sure if he'll play again, even with his friends playing, because of his experience this season. Toward the end his team was often short-handed, which didn't give the kids a lot of time for a break in the heat. We didn't receive any calls or anything from the coach telling us about the last game...which wasn't on the schedule. It's hard to justify yelling at the kids for being out of position when the league hasn't put enough practice time in to teach this to them. My negative views aside, I hope Trevor enjoyed most of the season playing with his friends. I know he wants to play football again, and has even talked about playing baseball again, too. We have an ice cream social next week when he'll get his trophy. I know that there are more pics of Lily playing softball than Trevor, but that wasn't intentional. I'm usually busy chasing Brian around at the soccer games, and it's hard to get better pics, and he missed the last two games.

Wolverines Break Into Win Column!

Trevor's soccer team broke into the win column on Monday, winning 5-3. Trevor had a good game on defense, and made some good plays. He's really kicking the heck out of the ball. He had to miss the game on Wed., because we had to go downstate, but will be in action next week with a practice. No game this coming Monday because of Independence Day.

Wolverines Start Game Play

Trevor's soccer team, the Wolverines, have played two games already. They dropped a tough one last Wednesday, 4-0, and lost to the Panthers on Monday, 8-4. Trevor played well, but is still getting used to his position. I don't know why they jump into games after just a few practices, but I guess that's how they do it. He's having a lot of fun and has a great attitude. He's happy to be playing on the same team as his best friend Alec. This week at practice, they were joined by members of the MLS Chicago Fire. They helped the kids with some great tips and drills.

WOLVERINES!!!!

Ok, unless you remember the classic 80's film Red Dawn then the title will mean nothing to you. This season, though, it stands for Trevor's new soccer team. He's very happy to be playing again this year, and even happier that his best friend Alec is on his team. They had their first practice last week, and were able to wear the uniforms this week. Trevor's new number is 12, by the way. Trevor has the best attitude when it comes to sports, and I'm sure it will be a fun and memorable season. Go Wolverines!!!!!

Hawks Take 3rd Place In Sault Soccer

The Hawks pounded the Panthers in the 3rd place game 6-1 on Thursday night. Trevor played really well, and came close again to netting his first goal in the first half. In the second half, it was a 2 on 0 for the Hawks, and I thought Trevor's teammate might pass it to him and give him a shot.
The second place team the Hawks beat three times, and the chamionship team we lost to only 1-0 when the ref gave them a free shot right in front of the goal.
Trevor really enjoyed his first soccer experience this season and wants to play next year, too. Lily will be playing next season also now that she's all healed up from surgery. Trevor has his soccer banquet on Tuesday night.

Weekly Roundup July 20-24

First off, let's go over last week. I didn't do a post because all we had was one baseball practice and one soccer game. Our baseball game on Wed. was rained out, and we headed downstate on Thurs., so Trevor had to miss that game. The Hawks unfortunately lost both games last week. Lily did have a doctor's appointment on St. Ignace, and they said her hand is doing really well and her x-rays looked good. So, this week she returned to the lineup, so we can recap that...

Monday Lily returned to the lineup and did pretty well. She went 2-3 at the plate and hit the ball pretty well. Trever went 1-3, but he hit the ball well, too. Sometimes they hit it hard, but right at someone. On Wed., it was the last game of the season. All of the kids seemed distracted by this, but we did ok, anyway. Both Lily and Trevor went 2-3 at the plate again, but had some trouble making contact at first. I don't think any of the kids were really paying much attention, just trying to get through the last game. Both kids also made some nice plays in the field, though. It was kind of a sad day for me.

In soccer, the Hawks won both game to improve their record to 3-2 in the playoffs. Next week they'll play for either 1st or 3rd place. They won 3-1 on Tuesday, and 4-2 on Thursday. Trevor played well in both games and got an assist in the first game. I think all of their players showed up this week, which made a big difference. Lisa even came to Thursdays game to root him on.

Friday we had Fun Night for baseball. The kids got to partake in various activities and had a lot of fun. I even took a turn in the dunk tank and got extremely wet. I told Lily I'd double her allowance if she knocked me in, and she did the very next throw. Lots of fun and I wish we would have gotten some pictures of that.

Weekly Roundup July 6-10

Another busy week for us and we finally had some nice weather. We were able to get in both baseball games, soccer practice and a soccer game. Papa and Nana even made the trip from Cadillac to see the kids, too.

Monday we had a good baseball game. Trevor is starting to hit the ball a lot better. It's not taking him as many swings to hit, and he's making better contact. He went 2-3 at the plate, but no RBI's, as no one was on base when he hit. He's making some good plays in the field, to, just have to learn to take the throws when he covering a base. Wednesday he went 2-3 also, with four RBI's being the last batter in the inning. Papa even helped out on the field a bit. Lily is still doing a great job helping on the bench. I actually would be lost without her keeping track of the lineup for me.

Thursday started the soccer playoffs. I am really proud of his team the Hawks, as they had NO substitute players and won the game 3-1. Trevor almost had his first goal, but missed the ball by just centimeters. If he keeps playing like this, he'll get one soon. He did have an assist, though, and is doing really well at throwing the ball in. No more practices, as we'll have game on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now on.

Weekly Roundup June 29-July 2

Lots of rain this week, so we missed out on baseball practice on Monday and soccer practice on Tuesday. Not that I didn't need the rest, but summer isn't that long and we hate to miss out on anything, not even practice. I had some good drills set up, too, so we'll have to save those for next time.
We played baseball in the rain on Wednesday, too. Only had five players show up so we borrowed a couple from the other team. Trevor went 2 for 3 at the plate and hit the ball real solid his first time up. Maybe I can get them out this weekend and work on some things. He made a nice play in the field, too. He's getting a lot better at catching the ball and at least getting in front of it. Lily is being a big help as an assistant coach, as my regular is on vacation. She's calling out the batting order and actually providing the game pics of Trevor.
Thursday night Trevor's soccer team the Hawks suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to the Wolverines 4-2. Trevor had an assist on the first goal, but didn't get a lot of playing time in the second half when the teams defense fell apart. They were short-handed again, only having one sub and missing a couple of their better players. They'll have to toughen up and get them next week. Trevor's doing better, but keeps getting distracted by the seagulls flying around.
Also, we'll be marching in the 4th of July parade with Little League Baseball.

Weekly Roundup June 22-26

Another busy week for us, and the heat was brutal, too. The kids really worked hard and worked up a sweat.

Two baseball games for us this week, both Monday and Wednesday. Trevor went 2 for 3 on Monday, with two infield hits. We tried using a lighter bat and he's getting around on the ball better. He made a couple of nice plays in the infield, too. Wednesday he went 1 for 2 at the plate with another infield hit. Still doing solid in the field and made some nice plays. Lily helped me out again with the lineup and is doing a great job.

Tuesday Trevor's soccer team had a scrimmage and they won 2-0. Only one sub for the team and it was really hot, so the kids didn't get that much of a break. Trevor was downing water like crazy after the game and was drenched in sweat. Thursday the Hawks had a real game and beat the Falcons 5-0. No goals for Trevor but he came very close and is playing a lot better. Starting to mix it up and get to the net.

Lily is continuing her physical therapy and had a session on Friday. They say her hand is coming along nicely and she'll be good as new. She's as tough as they come, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

The middle picture has Lily and Trevor with his school friends Alec and Sydney. Next week Papa and Nana are making the trip from Cadillac to see the kids.

Weekly Roundup June 15-19

Busy week for us, as the rain held off and we got all of our events in.

We had baseball practice on Monday, and things seemed to go well there. Lily helped out when she could and Trevor seems to be doing some things better. Coach Lenny worked with him on his hitting a bit, too. On Wednesday night Trevor had two infield hits. He's still not hitting the ball real solid, but getting better with practice. He also made a nice play in the field. Trevor was also picked for the Sault Little League Player of the Week for this week for the Minor 1 division.

Tuesday Lily went down to Petoskey and got the cast off of her hand. You can see by the pic she needs to wear a brace on it. She is so tough, she never cried during any of this. What an awesome little girl.

No soccer games this week, as the kids worked with the pros. Members of the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer were in town to put a camp on for the kids. They also put them through drills and give them some tips on soccer. Pictured is one of the Fire giving instruction to Trevor's team the Hawks (Trevor is #10). He is really doing better at soccer and likes it because he says it's easy. Back to games next week.

Weekly Roundup June 8-12

With Lily now on the DL, it looks like things will be focusing on Trevor for a bit. Lily did help out at the baseball game on Wednesday as my bench coach. She's keeps busy with the batting order and taking pictures while we're in the field.

Speaking of the baseball game, Trevor had two good hits, but had a little trouble making contact his third trip to the plate. He's doing better now than when before I was gone, so he's improving. He played some shortstop, second base, and first base during the game. Made some good catches and is doing a good job of getting in front of the ball. He just has to get more focused on the game and what's going on. Not just him, but remember these kids are 7-8 years old, and Trevor is 6, so sometimes it's tough for them. He had fun, though which is all that really counts in my book. Next week we'll start having 'outs' for the batters, but not sure whether we'll actually keep score or not.

Thursday night Trevor played in his first soccer game. His team the Hawks beat the Panthers 3-2. No goals for him, but he was playing forward each time his team scored. His first practice was on Tuesday, so he's a little behind the other kids and just getting used to the sport. Trevor is having fun with this too. We'll try to get out this weekend and work on some things to get him caught up.

Next week we have baseball practice on Monday, game on Wednesday. Soccer practice on Tuesday and another game on Thursday.

Trevor The Soccer Hawk

Trevor is playing soccer this year, and he finds himself on the Hawks. Lots of the kids in the area are playing and this is a good chance for him to do a lot of running and get some exercise. Lily didn't want to play at first, but changed her mind so we'll get her signed up next year. Should be a lot of fun and it looks like it won't interfere with baseball either. This will help make for an exciting summer. May is turning out to be one busy month for us. Lily and Trevor have thier big show this weekend and baseball games start on Monday.
