More Ice Time

After spending the afternoon in the water, we thought we would spend some time on the frozen kind that evening. It didn't go quite as smoothly as last time, though, as Brian took a pretty nast spill and landed right on his face!!! He's pretty tough and was back on the ice in no time. Lily and Trevor are getting better at skating, too. We just need to get in as much ice time as we can!! Brian just sees the bigger kids flying around, and thinks he can keep up, so sometimes his gets ahead of himself and takes some lumps. It's all part of the process, though...

Brian Embraces Destiny...

Brian got his first taste of ice skating last weekend, when I took the kids to the Pullar to try out their new skates. Brian did a great job, and no one could believe that this was his first time skating. Lily and Trevor had a great time, too, and are still learning, as we've only been skating a few times the last four years. We're going to be skating about every week if we can swing it, and get them ready for hockey someday!! The workers even let Brian sit on the Zamboni, which was a huge thrill for him!!!

So Much Fun....

After a few hours of frustration and colorfull adjectives, we finally got the stick-hockey table together. Here's a crummy pic of Brian basically going nuts on it. We're definitely going to have tons of fun with this together. I'll take some better pics soon and add them here.

Lucky For Lakers

The last two weekends, and even opening night, we've been pretty lucky for the Lakers. Last weekend we watched them skate to a 1-0 win over Ferris State, and the weekend before a 3-1 victory over the hated Northern Michigan Wildcats. Brian has been having a pretty good time, but has been prone to running away and hiding in the gift shop. The fun of having a two-year-old. At least he finally built up the courage to 'high five' the mascots last game. Lily and Trevor are having fun, too, but we haven't run into many of their school friends so far this year. Next games are the first weekend in December, and hopefully Santa will be there. So far, the Lakers are undefeated when we're in attendance so we need to keep it going.

Eagles Kick Off 2010-11 Hockey Season

We kicked off our hockey season this year again with the Soo Eagles. The held a pair of exhibition games over the weekend against the Flint Jr. Generals. I felt good to be back at the rink, and the cool air felt nice inside as it was pretty hot out both days. Lily and Trevor got to play with their friend Sydney, who we've seen at many Laker and Eagle game. She moved to Cheboygan, so Trevor won't have her in class anymore. The hockey games will probably be the only time they'll all get to see each other. Brian had a good time also, peeking out onto the ice and admiring the Zamboni when it passed. We're glad the Eagles are around, too, since the Lakers don't start until October. This also starts a busy week for us including a baseball and football game later in the week.

Laker Alumni Hockey

Wow, a hockey game in June. It's a treat we'll be happy to accept at this time of the year. LSSU is inducting NHLers Doug Weight and Jim Dowd into it's Hall of Fame this weekend, and the festivities kicked off with an Alumni hockey game. Unfortunately, Weight and Dowd weren't at the game, but a lot of other players who played pro and won National Championships were on the ice. It was nice to see some of the guys I went to school with, too. The kids had fun and Brian was being his busy self as usual, but really got into the game. He was cheering and clapping with Lily and was up on the glass checking things out. Trevor helped keep tabs on his little brother, too. Any excuse for the Amigos to spend time together is a good thing anyway.

Last Game For The Lakers

Papa and Nana came to visit us from Cadillac and to take in the final Laker hockey home game of the season. Trevor was too sick to come, but Lily and Brian took up the slack. This might be Brian's last game for awhile, as next season he will be entering the 'terrible two's' stage and will be a handfull to take care of at a game.
Pictured here are me and Brian, and Brian with Nana and Papa. Maybe we'll try to get to a Greyhounds game in Canada, or the Soo Eagles down the street at the Pullar before hockey is officially over for the season.
The Lakers won Friday night 7-4(after being up 6-0), but lost 4-1 on Saturday while Nana and Papa where there. Here's my article (probably my last one) from MiCHO:

Have Fun, Play Hockey Clinic

Lily and Trevor participated in the "Have Fun, Play Hockey" clinic at Lake Superior State. The Laker hockey team was on hand to run the clinic and help the kids learn how to play. Both kids had a lot of fun and worked really hard. No trouble getting them to sleep on this night. The video is of Lily puck handling. The pics are of the kids in the locker room, and Trevor getting help from Laker goalie Brian Mahoney-Wilson. He helped Trevor out a lot during last seasons clinic, too. We'll probably do this again next year, unless I can get them into a full time hockey program.

Skating With The Lakers-Again

This has been a tradition for the Laker hockey team for some years now, and it's always the highlight of the season for Lily and Trevor. The players are really good to them, and are always happy to get a picture or sign an autograph. The Lakers were wearing special pink jerseys as they were raising money to fight breast cancer. The kids were actually going to 'skate' this year, but didn't have time to get their skates ready before the game. They'll both be at the Lakers hockey clinic next month, so they'll get to skate with them then.
The Lakers won Friday's game 3-1, but dropped a 4-3 decision on Saturday. Here's my article from MiCHO:

Papa Joins Us For Hockey

Lily and Trevor were excited this week, as thier Papa came to visit from Cadillac and went with us to the hockey game. Brian played strange a bit, as he hasn't seen him since August, but warmed up after awhile. Papa treated us to dinner and was nice enough to buy new coats for his grandkids, as it's a blizzard up here now and winter is upon us.
The Lakers won Friday 2-0 and the Saturday game Papa was with us at 5-4 in a shootout. Here is my article from the MiCHO site:

Laker Blue/White Game

The Laker Hockey season kicked off tonight with the annual Blue/White game. The kids were pretty excited, as we always have so much fun watching hockey together. We were happy that the Blue team won 3-1, as our friend Nathan was on that team. We got to spend some time with his parents before the game as they were up from Cadillac, too. We'll be missing the home opener next weekend, though, as we'll be down in Mt. Pleasant watching the Central Michigan football game. This will be the kids first football game so they're pretty excited about that. Stay tuned.
