Little League Practice Starts For Boys

The 2012 Little League Baseball season is officially here up in the Sault, and this year I'll have both Trevor and Brian to root on. Brian, at 4-yrs-old, is starting to adjust to the whole practice thing, and Trevor is doing well after taking a season off last year. I plan on managing Brian's t-ball team, and being an assistant coach for Trevor's team. This should be a fun season for all of us, and I can't wait for the teams to be split up and for us to get outside.

Fun First Ballgame Of 2012

Last week we made our first trek down state for the West Michigan Whitecaps game against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. We had a great time, and each of the kids went away with something. Brian probably had the most fun of all, as he was able to race Crash around the bases! He did a good job, and won the race. Trevor caught a stuffed toy that he gave to Lily, and he also was thrown a game ball by one of the Whitecaps players. We all had a really good time with Papa for his birthday, and he enjoyed the game with his grandkids, too. The next game I'll be going to will be our baseball trip, and Lisa is going to bring the kids down when we get back, so we can get them to a game, too.

We Watch The Snowman Burn...

This just might be a formality at this point, but they still burned the snowman in effigy over at Lake Superior State. The kids and I had fun as usual, and the kids even got a free t-shirt each. The weather was great, in the 60's, and the first time I can remember doing this without the kids being bundled up in at least a winter hat and coat. And driving through campus, I made sure to blast some Def Leppard in the mini-van, just to make sure all the college kids remember how cool I am...

Totally Tube-ular Time

The Amigos took to the tubing hill for a couple of weeks in a row. Of course we had a great time, and we were even able to bring Brian this year, too. He had a great time, laughing all the way down the hills. The second week he went on the bigger hills, and did a great job there, too. He really liked to go down by himself, and this kid fears nothing. Lily and Trevor had fun as usual, and they each brought a friend the first week we went. Lots more snow this week, but the weather will be turning warmer. We'll try to get out at least one more time before the winter ends.

Lakers Win Over Broncos

To end another very busy weekend, we watched the Lakers beat the Western Michigan Broncos 3-2. Papa was up for the game and we had a great time together as usual. Trevor got a treat and was able to stay the night in the hotel with him. Brian wouldn't stay still long enough to get a picture with him and Papa, but we'll catch him off guard sooner or later. This was the final regular season home game for the Lakers. Not sure yet if they'll host a playoff game or not. I hope so, or this will be the last we'll see of them until next October!!!

Laker Softball Banquet

One of the traditions the Amigos and I have is the annual Take Me Out To The Ballgame banquet put on by the Lakers softball team. We were lucky that Papa was able to come with us this year. Another change, is that is was held in the Student Activity Center before the hockey game. Great idea that I think generated more fans to attend. Papa also spoiled Lily with a new hoodie, that she loves, and hasn't taken off since! She aslo got to put a pie in the face of her favorite Laker, which is something they started last year, and a lot of fun for the girls and Lily. Good spaghetti dinner, and a good way to kick off a night of hockey.

The Stanley Cup, and Red Wings Alumni

On Friday night, we headed down to St. Ignace for the Detroit Red Wings alumni game. To our surprise, they had the Stanley Cup on display, too, for us to gawk at. We went to see it in Canada a few years ago, and didn't get a chance to get close, so a bit of retribution for us. The Alumni game was pretty fun, and we saw some of the Wings who helped them win the Cup in the late 90's and '02 in Darren McCarty and Joey Kocur. Some older Wings like John Ogrodnick where there, too. We had a good time, but another long day for us.
